Is it normal to see bubbles in our C-16 silicone curing agent?
Many of our silicone manufacturing customers send us photos after receiving C-16 curing agent and raise the same concern: There are many small bubbles inside the sealed bag. Does that mean the product is defective? Will these bubbles cause blisters or porosity on my finished silicone parts after vulcanization?
The short answer: No, this is completely normal and will not affect your final products.
These bubbles you observe are just air trapped during the liquid filling and packaging process at room temperature. They are not impurities, not chemical gas generated by the curing agent itself, and they are not the bubbles that will remain in your silicone workpiece.
C-16 is our high anti-yellowing, odor-free liquid peroxide curing agent (DHBP / 2,5-Dimethyl-2,5-di(tert-butylperoxy)hexane) for HTV solid silicone rubber. It is transparent by nature. When we fill this liquid into the sealed pouch, a small amount of air gets wrapped inside the liquid and forms visible bubbles. These bubbles only exist in the packaged state before mixing and heating.
When you add C-16 into your silicone compound at the recommended dosage of 1–1.5% and mix thoroughly, then carry out standard high-temperature compression vulcanization (165–180℃): All these trapped air bubbles will release and dissipate during mixing and molding.
With proper processing and optional secondary post-cure, your finished silicone products will be bubble-free, low-odor, and maintain great anti-yellowing performance.
Core Benefits of C-16 Silicone Curing Agent
✅ Superior anti-yellowing performance for transparent and light-colored silicone
✅ Almost odorless after post-vulcanization
✅ Liquid format, excellent and uniform dispersion in silicone rubber
✅ Ideal for food-contact silicone: baby goods, kitchen utensils, silicone bracelets and other HTV silicone items
✅ Stable curing window for compression molding & extrusion
Important Handling & Storage Tips
- Store below 25℃, in a cool and dark area. Keep away from direct sunlight, high heat, strong acid and reducing substances.
- Not compatible with platinum curing systems or RTV room-temperature silicone.
- Separate storage from platinum catalysts to avoid risk.
