Specific Functions of INH-S1 in Addition Silicone

INH-S1 (S1 platinum inhibitor) is an acetylenic alcohol retarder. It achieves reversible coordination bonding with platinum catalyst via internal alkyne groups:

  1. At room temperature, it occupies the active sites of platinum, blocking the hydrosilylation reaction between vinyl silicone oil and hydrogen-containing silicone oil to restrain premature vulcanization and gelation.
  2. When heated to 100–150°C, the coordination bonds break, the inhibitor detaches and decomposes, platinum regains catalytic activity, and the silicone completes full crosslinking and curing normally.

Practical Production Functions

1. Extend silicone pot life

After mixing Part A and Part B two-component silicone, it greatly prolongs the operable time for stirring, pouring, coating and injection molding.

  • Without inhibitor: Silicone gels and wastes within just a dozen minutes after mixing.
  • With INH-S1: The controllable working time ranges from 1 to 8 hours, suitable for large-volume potting and automated continuous production lines.

2. Prevent waste caused by premature curing during production

  • LSR liquid silicone injection molding: Avoid blockage from pre-gel inside screws and runners, cutting downtime and material scrap.
  • Electronic potting compound: No sudden viscosity rise or surface skinning during mass encapsulation of large power supplies and transformers.
  • Silicone ink & coating: Prevent screen clogging and roller gelation in roll-to-roll coating processes.
  • Two-part silicone sealant: Stop pre-crosslinking inside barrels during filling and packaging.

3. Adjustable curing speed via flexible dosage

The inhibition strength can be precisely controlled by adjusting the addition ratio of INH-S1 (standard dosage: 0.1%–0.8%). Add more in high-temperature summer workshops and less in low-temperature environments to stabilize production processes all year round.

4. No negative impact on final vulcanization performance

The inhibition effect is fully reversible without residual side effects. Platinum regains full activity under heating, so no surface tackiness or incomplete curing occurs. Compared with traditional ECH ethynylcyclohexanol inhibitor, INH-S1 features low odor and low yellowing, which will not damage the appearance of transparent, food-grade and medical-grade silicone products.

5. Improve storage stability of semi-finished silicone

After blending INH-S1 into platinum-containing silicone base material, the storage life at room temperature is obviously prolonged, avoiding premature gelation of semi-finished products.

6. Wide compatibility with all addition silicone types

It is fully compatible with LSR, electronic potting compound, silicone sealant, silicone coating, mold silicone and transparent soft silicone. No stratification, precipitation or blooming will happen after mixing.
